Abhishek Singh Asks:

Question: I have a budget of  Rs 50,000 (about $1000) for a CPU (already have monitor, mouse, speakers, keyboard). I want a gaming laptop/PC. What shall I prefer more, a laptop or desktop? In this budget, will I be able to play latest games on high settings? Will my machine be able to survive in the race for few more years?

Rohan Answers: If you travel a lot and want a gaming device with you, then "Laptop" is the way to go else PC will be the best thing for you.

If you buy a laptop, you will have to compromise on the graphics card and that makes your machine not so future proof. Don't get disheartened because the laptop which I am going to suggest can run games like Crysis, Battlefield and Assasin's Creed in medium ultra settings.

The name of the laptop is HP Pavilion 15-n013TX Laptop . It's truly an awesome laptop with awesome specs within the 50k range. If you are planning to buy a laptop then this should be your first choice.

  • Processor: Core i5 (4th Generation) 4200U
  • RAM: 4GB DDR3
  • Screen Size: 15.6 inches
  • GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GT 740M - 2 GB
  • HDD: 1TB
  • OS: Windows 8 64 bit
Talking about PC's, they are obviously much more future proof that laptops. You can always change the components as per your requirements. The build which I suggested hopefully will be able to handle games for upto 1-3 years.

So its you who has to decide whether you want to go for portability or power.

Question: Should I go for HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4?

Rohan Answers: This is a very popular question and I am glad that you asked it. Everyone has a different opinion about this question. So here is my opinion about it.

HTC One has been projected as a smartphone with great build quality and premium feel whereas the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been projected as a feature rich and a powerful smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One
Since HTC One's body is made out of aluminium, it automatically makes it prone to scratches and dents. Ofcourse you can use a case for it but that totally defies the concept of "premium feel" as you no longer have the feel of phone. The case also makes the phone thicker and little bulky. When I buy a smartphone, I want to use it as it is. I don't want to hide it inside a case. Also because of the metallic body, the HTC One gets warm quickly while playing games or using it for long.

Let's move forward to Samsung Galaxy S4. The main issue with this smartphone is that it simply feels very cheap. That's the main concern people have with it. I also hate the fact that every phone from Samsung looks somewhat the same. Samsung should really do something about the design of their future phones.

Confused? Let me help you out a bit.

Reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy S4
  1. Samsung exclusive features like Air View, Smart Pause etc.
  2. Expandable Storage via external SD card.
  3. Awesome 13 MP Primary Camera.
  4. Removable Battery.
Reasons to buy HTC One
  1. Better build quality and sexy design & looks!
  2. Great low light photography.
  3. Awesome inbuilt stereo Boom Speakers.
You can't really go wrong with any of the two smartphone. It all comes down to your requirements and preferences. If you travel a lot, I would suggest you to go for Galaxy S4 just for the fact that it takes awesome pictures and you can use an extra battery when your current battery runs out.

If you want a phone with out of the crowd design, strong built quality and also some great sounding speakers, go for the HTC One.

PS: Given the money, I would buy both of them!

Rahul Sharma Ask:

Question: Android or Windows 8 Smartphone?

Rohan Answers: Presently, Android is an established OS whereas Windows 8 is still trying to catch up. The main concern that everyone has with Windows phones is lack of apps. Microsoft is really trying hard to bring new and popular apps to its platform. A recent news revealed that Microsoft is paying upto $100 per app to its developers. Presently, there are about 145,000 apps on Windows Store.

If I were to buy a smartphone today, it would be a Android smartphone rather than a Windows 8 smartphone. Don't get me wrong, Windows 8 is an amazing OS. The interface is really fluid & snappy. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to the ability to choose apps of your choice.

If you really want to go for Windows 8 smartphone, I would suggest you to go for these budget oriented smartphones like Nokia 502, Nokia 620 or Nokia 720 rather than going for the higher end ones.
