Samsung Galaxy Grand vs Micromax A116 Canvas HD

We witnessed the launch of two most awaited smartphones which are the Micromax A116 Canvas HD and the Samsung Galaxy Grand. Both the smartphones are phablets which means they have a screen size of 5". Samsung Galaxy Grand is just a cheaper version of the big brothers which are Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Note II where as the Micromax A116 Canvas HD is an upgrade over the older hit version of the Canvas 2. That's some of the information regarding the smartphones. Lets now jump over to the specifications  to get a real idea about how different these phones are.

Samsung Galaxy Grand vs Micromax A116 Canvas HD

The screen is one of the most important part of a smartphone because the whole phone is centered around the screen and if the screen isn't perfect there is nothing which the processor or the RAM can do about it.

Talking about the Screen Specs of the Galaxy Grand, it features a 5" WVGA (400 x 840) screen with a colour depth of 16 Million Colours where as the Micromax A116 Canvas HD also comes along with a 5" screen and a colour depth of 16 Million colours but with a resolution of 1280 x 750.

The Grand is way behind in PPI that of Canvas HD. The Samsung Galaxy Grand has a PPI of 175 where as the Canvas HD has a PPI of around 280.

If we talk about the Screen Technology, the Galaxy Grand uses a old TFT screen where as the Canvas HD uses the IPS technology. IPS allows you better viewing angles which means when you are sharing the screen of your phone with someone, both of you will be able to experience the content better than that of a TFT screen. Having said that Micromax beats Samsung in this segment.

Micromax has partnered with Mediatek and has incorporated a quad core processor (MediaTek’s MT6589) in the Canvas HD. It is clocked at 1.2 GHz.  This has reportedly allowed the Canvas HD to score high in the benchmark applications like AnTuTu and Nenamark.

Samsung Galaxy Grand is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor. I have not been to extract exactly which processor has been used in the Galaxy Grand. I check the official website but failed to do the same. If you find it out, please let me know in the comments below.

As per logic a quad core processor should give better results that a dual core processor but Android is all about optimization. A better optimized phone will give better results even if the specs are low.

All the other major specifications are same like that of RAM ( 1 GB ) , Rear Camera ( 8 MP ) and OS ( Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ) .

The Samsung Galaxy Grand will be sold in the market for around Rs 21,000 where as the Micromax A116 Canvas HD will be sold around Rs 15,000. While Samsung Devices are sold at exact prices in the market with marginal difference, Micromax Canvas HD is believed to sell at a street price of Rs 12,000 - Rs 13,000.

Which one should you buy?

If you are a brand conscious person go with the Samsung Galaxy Grand. If you are a person who wants good experience yourself rather impressing others ( lol ) go with the Micromax Canvas HD.

Micromax is offering you smartphone with better specification at a lower price. If you buy it there is nothing to loose.
